From animating in a parchment style to just straight up animating on parchment (the modern equivalent at least), you really know how to go above and beyond when it comes to your creations.

I looked up the specific Pokémon seen in this animation, and wow, he must have had a lot of determination to fully evolve in such a short amount of time. The movement here is very fluid, and each character has been brought to life very well; for example, you can see the determination in the newly-evolved Dragapult's eyes, and the pride and hubris in the orange Pokémon's laugh (sorry, I haven't played Gen 8 yet). I *did* feel like the animation cut off a bit early at the end, although it's only a minor thing.

As for the sound design, I think the inclusion of sound effects from the Game Boy Pokémon games is a cute and fun way to emphasise what's happening in the animation, such as when Drakloak looks over at the blue Pokémon, or when he grows his cannons to become Dragapult. One sound effect I'm not so sure about is the one where it sounds like he's talking before firing his cannons; I don't know if that's a sound effect from one of the games, or whether it's supposed to be speech. It didn't distract from the animation much, though, so I won't be too harsh about it.

Overall, this is a really good animation, and done in a way you wouldn't normally expect. Kudos to you for trying something different!

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed feedback! it's much appreciated :D

The animation here is very good! Whilst the characters are fairly simple in design, you've managed to give a lot of personality to them in both their movement and expressions. Ideally I would've liked to see a bit more struggle between the two opponents, although I understand this is only a concept animation. Still, I can see a lot of potential here.

Also, the green guys' stone having wooden steps on it - that is what I like to call attention to detail.

SpaceJaylee responds:

Thanks for your comment about you saw a lot of potential and the details~
I like to add some detail because I want some aspects more realistic and with basic physics, giving it believability
I'm try to make a longer version to show more characters and story :)

Well there go my weekend plans

I would jump into a volcano for meat drawer

Ok, that shot where Scout was running through the building... Pixar needs to hire you right away.

For real though, I enjoyed the exaggerated style of expression and movement you had here, and the constant switching between Scout's speech and his torment just added to the hilarity of it all. Maybe next time, he'll know better than to throw cans at a massive Russian man with a minigun.

And thus, an important life lesson was learned: there's such a thing as overreacting.

This is a good animation; you give a lot of personality to the characters and the ending actually managed to subvert my expectations. I would have liked to see a proper fight scene, but I understand that they can be really hard to animate. Still, I really enjoyed this one!

GuyHitchens responds:

Thank you! i wanted to add some scenes of the birds getting absolutely obliterated but cause of time constraints i left them out lmao

I really like the Magic Crow's expressions, he seems like a cheerful guy. Hope he's alright.

A decent enough animation; I can sort of see what you were trying to go for here. However, I feel as if it could be a bit faster paced, even if it supposed to be scary. Each still shot goes on for far too long in my opinion.

How does your head shape affect you in your day to day life?

This is a really well animated piece that explores themes of self-doubt, something you don't tend to see all too often. I can appreciate the dynamic between the hopeless Pillowshell and the cheerful, energetic Guiding Star, almost as if GS represents the desire and motivation that Pillowshell needs, but has been rejecting throughout his life.

One criticism I do have is that I don't believe there was enough build-up in Episode #0 in order for us to get to know Pillowshell as a character. Sure, he was teasing Toy a bit, but there wasn't really anything to suggest that he was a "failure" and "so awful to so many people". This means that the only clues we get to Pillowshell's life before are through snippets of dialogue in this episode, such as the fact he wanted to be a musician. Don't get me wrong, the idea of introducing a mystery character and slowly revealing clues about who they are can definitely work in some contexts, but I feel as if those clues would need to be drip fed a lot more slowly, whereas over here there is a big segment where we seem to be told everything at once, almost as if we were supposed to know beforehand. Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more insight into Pillowshell's adult life before getting to this situation.

Metallis responds:

Yes indeed!
The idea was to set Pillowshell up as this low self-esteem having character with clear problems and then to reveal the causes as the series goes, alongside him learning how to move on from those issues episode to episode.
In execution, in this episode, it does seem to have that unfortunate side-effect.
I appreciate your deep analysis of it!
