How does your head shape affect you in your day to day life?
This is a really well animated piece that explores themes of self-doubt, something you don't tend to see all too often. I can appreciate the dynamic between the hopeless Pillowshell and the cheerful, energetic Guiding Star, almost as if GS represents the desire and motivation that Pillowshell needs, but has been rejecting throughout his life.
One criticism I do have is that I don't believe there was enough build-up in Episode #0 in order for us to get to know Pillowshell as a character. Sure, he was teasing Toy a bit, but there wasn't really anything to suggest that he was a "failure" and "so awful to so many people". This means that the only clues we get to Pillowshell's life before are through snippets of dialogue in this episode, such as the fact he wanted to be a musician. Don't get me wrong, the idea of introducing a mystery character and slowly revealing clues about who they are can definitely work in some contexts, but I feel as if those clues would need to be drip fed a lot more slowly, whereas over here there is a big segment where we seem to be told everything at once, almost as if we were supposed to know beforehand. Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more insight into Pillowshell's adult life before getting to this situation.
Yes indeed!
The idea was to set Pillowshell up as this low self-esteem having character with clear problems and then to reveal the causes as the series goes, alongside him learning how to move on from those issues episode to episode.
In execution, in this episode, it does seem to have that unfortunate side-effect.
I appreciate your deep analysis of it!
A pretty interesting animation that left me wanting to know more. If I may ask, what was the inspiration for the characters being pillowcases?
I'm getting this question more than I expected too lol >.<
It was my visual attempt to capture a feeling i get sometimes when i lie awake at deep night, very tired but not yet asleep.
It's strange, uncomfortable feeling-- I don't want to get too into it right now, but pillows, I thought, were a good way to represent that feeling.
More will come very soon ;)
This is a cool animation! The fight scenes are well-animated, and I enjoyed the references to several classic NG characters. It really does capture the 2000s Newgrounds energy very well.
Pretty decent as far as animation quality is concerned; you're able to squeeze a lot of movement and expression out of a bunch of crudely drawn stickmen. The fast-paced humour works well here, and managed to keep me engaged throughout. I enjoyed this one.
Also, they might want to consider adopting stage names...
An interesting concept, for sure! I love how expressive the character is, too. I'm excited to see how this one turns out!
Thanks!
A really interesting animation; I can't say I've ever seen a parchment style before. As someone who is not familiar with the original legend this was based on, I feel as if you were able to effectively portray the enlightenment of a man whose emotions turned him into a monster. I also enjoyed the small way you brought together modern and ancient by having the three kappas hop on a bus to get to the temple.
The animation itself, as well as the character and sound design was also executed very well in my opinion. I can't tell if it was a deliberate choice or not, but I found it interesting how very few sound effects were used during the battle with the monster; it helps in heightening the intensity of the battle.
An overall incredible animation. Keep it up!
Thanks so much dude, You understood it spot on! Really happy to hear you liked the sound in the battle, I'm not a drummer (just a taiko drum master enjoyer) but I had a lot of fun recording that section.
It's so stupid; I love it.
The animation is decent enough, but the audio is not good. Now to be fair, I have no idea if this is Flash's compression or not, but I often find myself having to turn up my volume in order to hear what is being said. However, my main issue is that the "PABLO" part of the song is essentially a jumpscare. It really needs to be turned down.
please read the the first line of the authors comments/description to further understand the point and goal of this animation, thanks. Pablo is also meant to hold a surreal but also comedic value which is why it'll have moments where the audio is blasting out "PABLO" at a high volume, so if you dont fully understand this then I'd personally say this is something you won't enjoy that much and thats fully understandable
Yoo, this animation looks awesome! I shall be eargely awaiting the full release!
Thx! Happy to hear that!
